(Yuba City, CA) James Gallagher announced strong support from the agriculture community in his bid for the 3rd District Assembly seat. Farmers and ranchers supporting Gallagher include Mat Conant, District 15 Board Director for the California Farm Bureau Federation, former President of the State Board of Agriculture Al Montna, former Chairman of the State Water Resources Control Board Charlie Hoppin, Jim Paiva, Bob DuBose, Michael Rue, Les Heringer, Charlie Matthews, Brendon Flynn, Herb Holzapfel, Ag Leadership alums Donald Norene, John Amarel, John Weiler, Nicole Montna-Van Vleck, Sam Nevis, Charley Mathews, Jr., Karm Bains, and Paul Squires, as well as more than 200 family farmers from across the District who have given their support to Gallagher. Agriculture is the backbone industry of the North State. Gallagher’s support from key industry leaders, in addition to support from the Yuba Sutter Farm Bureau, make him the overwhelming choice of the farming community. Gallagher has a history of working to help farmers as an agricultural attorney and in his position as an elected member of the Sutter County Board of Supervisors.

Marysville farmer Charley Mathews Jr. cited Gallagher’s commitment to providing a sustainable water supply as reason for endorsement, “Especially in drought years, it is clear our region’s farm economy is dependent on a reliable supply of water. James Gallagher understands water and I have faith in his ability to provide the leadership needed to build more water storage in the North State and protect our area of origin and historic water rights that have been in place for generations.”

Other farmers offered their support to Gallagher because of his results in fighting for farmers against government overregulation of the industry. “In the State Assembly, James will work to repeal burdensome regulations imposed on farmers by overzealous state agencies like CARB,” said Chico Farmer Les Heringer. “He has a proven track record of advocating for our ag-based economy and he is the clear choice to take our fight to Sacramento.”

Gallagher is a Sutter County Supervisor and a member of a long-standing farming family in Sutter County. As a Supervisor and an agricultural attorney, he has championed property rights, protection of our ag-based economy and limited government. He has worked hard on important regional issues including levee repair and flood control.
